She influenced singers such as Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. Her brilliance, fame , and history of abuse appear to have lead her into a path of self-destruction. She has contributed much to the music world, yet her death at age 48 brings renewed attention to the seriousness of domestic violence and addiction.
